Antigua and Barbuda

"The island of Antigua was explored by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and named for the Church of Santa Maria de la Antigua in Seville. Antigua was colonized by Britain in 1632; Barbuda was first colonized in 1678. Antigua and Barbuda joined the West Indies Federation in 1958. With the breakup of the federation, it became one of the West Indies Associated States in 1967, self-governing its internal affairs. Full independence was granted Nov. 1, 1981." source: InfoPlease.com

When a coworker recently returned from a 2-week stay at Sandals Antigua, fond memories of a veritable paradise resurfaced in my mind. It's been nearly ten years since that glorious adventure. I gleaned vicarious pleasure listening to his vivid descriptions of the white sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, and mouth-watering Caribbean food and drink. I once again tasted Antigua’s own Cavalier rum and the famous sweet, black pineapple.

He seemed truly amazed at the kindness and warmth of the Antiguans, and remembering the amazing people that I had met in this truly amazing place, well, let's just say, that was the final kicker.
